The Holding It Together series focuses on human behaviourial tendencies often considered by general society as maladaptive or dysfunctional---acts of impulse, control, perfectionism, submission and bondage. Protruding forms and varied textures are created by repetitively applying pieces of hand torn heavy gauge black tape to the giving matte base. The specific material choice and the contrast of rough/smooth, shiny/flat, black/white surface qualities created in the compulsive actions of building the reliefs can directly refer to and/or imply the possibilities of pleasure and pain experienced in these acts.
